STEM Stars Afternoon Science Enrichment

STEM Stars is partnering with Newtown Township Parks & Recreation to provide an afternoon science enrichment program. The program will cover topics related to science, technology, engineering and math.  Ignite your child’s scientific curiosity and boost their problem solving, critical thinking and time management skills. 




  • All lessons are aligned with PA Academic Standards for Science and Technology and Engineering Education and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)


  • PA Certified Teacher to Student Ratio is 16:1


  • Science Leader to Student Ratio is 4:1




STEM CORE
STEM CORE stands for Challenges, Organization, Resources and Engineering curriculum. A perfect introduction to the STEM world.
 
Kitchen Science STEM
We will do edible experiments and look at the science behind how it all works. We  will examine chemical, biochemical, biological, microbiological, and physics principles of recipes. Food topics include bread, wacky cake, death by chocolate, pancakes and maple syrup, pasta and crème brulee, hot ice cream and watermelon caviar. 
 
Engineering Mini Smart Homes
STEMists think big as they build mini homes filled with tech gadgets. We will save energy with fruit-sensitized solar cells, print 3D furniture, purify the water system and use our imagination to take physics and chemistry from the abstract into the everyday world! 
 
Coding with Scratch
We will teach students to code using lesson themes. In Music & Sound, students use the computer to play musical notes, create a music video, and build an interactive music display while learning how programming is used to create music. In Friends, we emphasize teamwork as students imagine a company together. Students build individual projects, but they build each one for or about a “friend” in the class. *Students must bring their own device for coding or rent a chrome book for $20/week
