Acrylic Pouring Techniques
The techniques listed will be classified as Dirty or Clean. What is the difference?
Clean Pours: Paint colors are poured separately and they combine on the canvas.
Dirty Pours: Paint colors are combined in a cup or container before pouring on the canvas.
Flip Cup: This technique is the most popular form of acrylic pouring. We take different colors of acrylic paint and layer them in a cup, prep our canvas, and flip! The result is a beautiful painting full of cells, patterns, and color.
Container Pour: This technique, in contrast to flip cup, has a little more control of paint placement. If you like negative space paintings, this is a great technique to try!
Chain Pull: This technique doesn't involve a classic pour, but rather uses the acrylic pour paint and a ball chain dipped in the paint to create patterns on canvas.
Galaxy Theme: Using dark colors like metallics, black, purple, and blues, use your imagination and acrylic pouring to create your own galaxy on canvas. Want to make it out of this world? We can add glitter and stars as well!
Ocean Theme: Love the ocean? This class is for you. Using acrylic paint in white and different shades of blue, green, and teal, we will create a beautiful ocean-themed painting. Love glitter? We have it if you want to add some sparkle to your painting!
Puddling: Layering puddles of paint creates bold and modern patterns.
Strainer: This method is a class favorite. Pouring our paint through a sink strainer and then tilting with your strainer on the canvas makes a colorful, almost tie-dye effect.
Swipe: Create a painting using different materials to swipe over paint over a straight color pattern pour- revealing amazing cell patterns.
